The collection of stone sculptures

The collection contains more than 3000 pieces of stone sculptures, out of which most belong to the Early Middle Ages, but some exemplars date to even earlier or later periods. The majority of these monuments are part of church furnishings that are decorated with characteristic Pre-Romanesque compositions and motifs in one-dimensional bas-relief. The most common forms are geometrical bodies in different combinations of three-strand or two-strand ribbons, as well as complex compositions with iconographic content (cross with antithetically positioned birds, cross and palmettes under arcades).
