Kamenmost

Encouraged by the find of a tombstone during the reconstruction of the national route D-60 between Lovreć and Imotski, the team of the Museum HAS conducted archaeological protection works at site Kaldrma in the settlement Kamenmost. Between 14th November and 3rd December 2008, part of a late mediaeval graveyard was excavated, which is located approximately 50m from the bridge over the river Vrlika towards Imotski and 2m below the embankment of the current road pavement. In an area of 90 m2, remains of a cobble pavement- raw material of an older road- as well as 24 graves were discovered, mostly with one burial in a pit that was walled and covered with flagstones. Although there were no grave goods, the general picture, the circumstances of the find, the type of burial and the tombstone, which was discovered in situ, undoubtedly places the interments into the late mediaeval period.
